Zach and Christy Yoder in Scripture Engagement

Hope and Joy

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

When we spend time worshiping God in song and dance, when we read stories of his faithfulness and experience his power in our lives, it is so easy to be full of joy!  But when our plans fail and opportunities are missed, we can quickly forget our source of hope, joy and peace.

Humility

Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
Romans 12:3
Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
Ephesians 2:9

If you haven't had the privilege of seeing me (Zach) on a bad day, you may not have seen that apart from Christ I have nothing to boast about.  Please pray that I never forget this foundational truth, even on "great" days! (Or days when wisdom calls to give up my way.)

Peace

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

--Jesus (John 16:33)

I love the picture that the Hebrew concept of peace or Shalom (שָׁלוֹם) is not just absence of trouble, but wholeness of relationship and all that is right. Pray that no matter how troubled the world is around us, we will have peace in our hearts.

Creativity

Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good!
Gen 1:31
The earth and skies, the grass and trees
The starry hosts, the roaring seas
Reflect a God beauty, God of light
Show glory by day and power at night.

Made in his image in a world of pain
Formless and empty at our hands again
May he through us again bring hope and light
Shape and fullness, hearing and sight!

(This is an original poem.  Seemed appropriate for "creativity".)

Love

I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices. I want you to know me more than I want burnt offerings
--God (Hosea 6:6)

Whether at home in the office, we need to keep coming back to this.  God's love changes us and without it we are empty and useless.  With it we have hope and something to share!

Didn't get the prayer card?  We probably still have extras!
